Summary:
Being
buried alive is one of all human beings biggest fears. Shut up in a coffin, unable to move, only a
little bit of oxygen, death is eminent.
When a family in Honduras thinks they hear the crying of their loved one
who was just buried the day before, they start to tear up the entire grave and
tomb to try to save her. They will do
anything to get her out and to help her all the while imagining that she is
really alive. The pressure to save her
is incredible and the force with which they are moving a cement tomb is
unbelievable, all in an attempt to save a dead person who has been dead for
days. The mind is a powerful machine
that will cause the sanest person to believe that their loved one has been
wrongfully buried. It can give us false
hope. It is the different stages of
grief that we go through that causes us to imagine or want to believe that
something so far fetched is real. Death
is the ultimate end to life. There is no
turning back, no second chances, no do overs.
It is just the end.
Analysis:
Benjamin Radford wrote this article in August of 2015 after
the victim’s husband was interviewed on television about his experience of
hearing his wife crying for help from her grave.
This article is compared to others that showcase how the
mind can work tricks on people and how the different stages of grief can
confuse even the best of people. Death does not discriminate and it will happen
to everyone eventually.
I see this as an exploitation of people grieving. The media took advantage of a young husband
who had just lost his wife and they gave him a stage to promote what he thought
was his young wife who had wrongfully buried.
His subconscious was not allowing him to see reality but wanted to feed
his grief and imagine that his wife was still alive.
weird, interesting
ReplyDeleteThis is a very unusual thing. I would feel so sad for someone who misses someone so much that they truly believe that they are hearing their voice, or in this case screaming. I would also question his mental state, hearing voices that aren't there. -Lia K 6
