Reagan Rees p. 5: The man who bought stonehenge - and then gave it away

Can a monument be bought? Apparently Stonehenge can, as a present for a spouse! Or another legend say that sir Cecil Chubb purchased it is so some American scoundrel wouldn't snatch it up. It was all done for the good of England, because it was then donated. This is significant because it was purchased 100 years ago from today, September 21, 1915. When Chubb donated it to the city he declared "No one should pay more than a shilling to get in" and the local get in free. He has left an everlasting legacy for many generations to come.
