Obama, Put a woman in charge of FCC Kiyanna Elliott

Summary: Media companies are powerful at shaping attitudes and culture, but media culture is often deeply sexist and normalizes roles that limit everyone. Four important agencies regulating media. In 2013, America's media are still largely run by men with women holding only 6% of all TV and radio station licenses, and as of 2011, 28.4% as TV news directors.

Analysis: I always wonder when talking about the percentages of women working in certain field where do women tend to work. There's so many types of jobs yet you see a lot of them are male dominated which doesn't make much sense since the male population in the minority. This article makes me think of the history of the roles women play in the work field. Anne Hutchinson was speaking out not only has an outspoken religious maverick but also as a woman in a male ran religious congregation. It took her a look of courage to do that in a time like that. It's a different time now yet we are still struggling to see diversity. I just want wonder what the world will look like in the coming years.

  1. inequality is still a big problem here in America, equal representation, especially in the media, would certainly help ease this problem.

Say what you want about Obama, but he really does a wonderful job of trying to get minority representation out there. Hopefully our next president works hard to do the same.

  3. I agree with Carlos in that Obama has worked these past four for equality between men and women. I can only hope our next president strives to do that and more. I too wonder where women tend to fall in those percentages. There are so many things out there to do and it amazes me that there is still a lack of diversity in the work force. In the future, I hope to see women achieving every job title will the same pay as men.
