summery: Obama recently nominated Eric K. Fanning to be secretary of military. He believes that Eric has had plenty of military experiance and is a perfect canidate for the job. Obama also canceled the "Dont Ask Dont Tell" rule which prevented openly gay people from being in the military. People are very excited about Eric's nomination. Eric is very qualified for the position, and several people agree.
Analysis: Eric K. Fanning is a huge progressive step. People say that things are getting more liberal and more progressive, which may be true to an extent, but several people in the LGBTQ community are being turned down for jobs, or being treated very differently in the work place or at school. I could not even believe that America even had a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" rule. Especially in the military. The military is suppoed to protect our rights and keep us free. How would it be possible that they were doing that when they had a rule that made people supress themselves and were persecuting people for their sexual orientation? I'm very happy that Eric K. Fanning is being nominated by one of the most powerful men in our nation. Because if the presendent believes these ideas, it theoretically means that Americans do too, and that's a step in the right direction.
