A family from Delaware was vacationing in the U.S. Virgin Islands 6 months ago and were poisoned by pesticide. The sons, who used to be athletic stars at their school, are now barely able to move.
Prior to reading this article, I knew that fairly recently a boy was hospitalized for the same reason. It seems to me that pesticide poisoning is happening more frequently, or at least we're paying more attention to it now. The author is sympathetic towards the family and passionate about fixing the pesticide problem. Terminix was the company that administered the use of the methyl bromide pesticide. When used correctly, it's safe. Since the incident, Terminix has been more thoroughly monitoring its use.
I think that pesticide poisoning is very unfortunate. Inhaling even just a little harmful gas has seriously turned peoples' lives upside-down. It scares me that major companies might not have an accurate judgment on the safety of their products. It makes me wonder how strong our infrastructure really is.
