When hopeful future engineer Ahmed Mohamed brought his homemade clock to school he got a very unexpected response. He thought that showing his clock to his teacher would impress her. However it took a wrong turn when she saw it as a threat and more possibly a bomb, and turned to call the police. Ahmed was later arrested at the school, accused of being in possession of a "hoax (fake) bomb".
I think that with what is going on right now, it does not surprise me that some people are overly caucious when they see a device like what he brought in(wires and all). Some people could even see a prejudice teacher. I truly believe that this teacher had no bad intentions, and she was just concerned with what she had seen. Although I do think that calling the police and having him arrested was really extreme.

It's sad that our society has come to the point where no one can do anything in complete innocence, even this young student. No one feels safe or trusts anyone, and only society can reestablish this trust.

ReplyDeleteIt's sad that this happened that way, but you can never be too sure. Especially because of the awful things that have been happening recently. When I heard about this story I didn't even know he was Muslim. And I truly feel that this didn't have anything to do with his race. The school officials saw his object as a threat and did the safest thing to do. I wish we can just take race out of the situation and think how dangerous this really could've been. I mean it was sticking guise. (But it was clock)
