Gunnar Ozuna 6th Period - "Ousted as Gay, Aging Veterans Are Battling Again for Honorable Discharges"

Summary: An 82 year old veteran has finally come to accept who he really is after hiding it for so many long years. Private Donald Hallman was discharged when it was discovered he was homosexual, and he was ashamed. He hid away all war memorabilia and got a wife. He is now in the process of recovering all memorabilia. He is now battling to get all other living veterans who were discharged for the same reason upgraded discharges.

Analysis: I think that it's absolutely wonderful that he is finally coming to terms with his true sexual identity. I do think it's tragic, however, that he's doing this so late in life. It would have been quite wonderful for him to have been able to happily live it up earlier on in his life. Now that marriage equality has been legalized, I hope he is able to succeed in getting more honorable discharges for his fellow veterans.

  1. All this discrimination being acknowledged in this century has really brought a lot of positive effects onto everyone who was ridiculed before. I'm happy for him and believe he deserves to be who he is. His discharge was uncalled for and all he went through was uncalled for as well. Glad he gets to enjoy himself for who he truly is.
