Sunday evening was the 64th Emmy Awards show. Aside from the amazing actors, actresses, and the outfits, there was much noticeably more diversity in our stars, nominees, and winners. This year there were many more people of color who were nominated and also winners of an Emmy. Viola Davis made history that night and was the first woman of color to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
I'm glad to see that other races are being represented in such an important event that millions of people watch. Our social standards make it hard for people of other races to achieve success or get recognition but I hope this gets us one step closer to breaking down that barrier. I look forward to seeing even more diversity next year and in other award shows.

**67th Emmy Awards show, haha
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Viola Davis was the first woman of color to win an Emmy in that category! She is amazing. Her speech was incredible and really made me appreciate the shift of women's roles. Since the decline of the Hollywood star system, the leading lady type has been redefined with increasingly more diversity in skin color and body type. The TV and movie industry is surely changing!
