This weekend, grandparents of an 11-month old claimed to have left the boy, Jaxon, in the car. Since the mother works a night shift as a nurse, she was sleeping during the day so she asked the grandparents to watch her kids. After the grandparents, Kyle and Meta, took their daughter and the two grandchildren to church, they realized they had left Jaxon in the scorching SUV. The mother awoke to Kyle and Meta telling her they didn't know where the child was and she walked outside to find her son in the car that they took to church. According to the sheriff, Steve Wilson, the three adults present thought that either one of them brought Jaxon in for a nap. There was definitely a lack of communication. Although they tried to revive the young boy, he was pronounced dead at the hospital that day. The article later states that, "the infant was the 19th child to die in the United States in 2015 because of being left inside a hot car."
Just by reading the title of this article, I was reminded how mindless people can be about the biggest things. The fact that this boy was the 19th child to die in a hot car was very surprising to me. It amazes me how oblivious one can be about their own child or grandchild. I can understand if someone leaves food in the car or a book bag, but not a family member! I can't imagine how the mother reacted toward the grandparents or how the grandparents have to live with this death on their hands.

In the south there should be something better done about this, especially in the summer, since it happens so often. Maybe like police or security guards should patrol parking lots or there should be sings every few feet to remind people to lock their doors and check their children. It shouldn't have to be like that, but children shouldn't have to die from forgetfulness.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely awful!!! There was actually an experiment/ competition where they offered $500 to any adult who could sit in a car for 10 minutes in the hot sun without air conditioning or the windows rolled down. The majority of people after about 5 minutes started panicking and going into hysteria.

ReplyDeleteI find it truly horrific that events like this are happening. We need to become more aware of our surroundings and what we are doing. I can't imagine how I would feel if I were responsible for this event. I, however, don't believe this event should've been publicized because think of how much worse this makes the grandparents and mother feel.
Yes, I think that if the event wasn't publicized, the grandparents might feel better, but the world now knows how careful they need to be now about these issues and always make sure to pay attention to their surroundings.

ReplyDeleteThis is horrifying, to think that someone just forgets that a child is in the car. It seems like a cartoon, the perfect, "I though you had him!" scenario. But, this is not a cartoon this is real life and a real child's life was lost because of this.
smh people these days. They claim how important and how much they love their kids...... but forget them in a hot car. I don't think so.
