Religious Rights Law - Alyssa Hamilton

Today the Arkansas state legislature has passed a religious freedom bill in response to the Indiana bill that was passed. Many Democrats say that this bill “authorizes discrimination.” The bill was passed despite international outrage that had only hours earlier caused the governor of Indiana to have to walk out the back. This law is quite similar to a law decried by the world’s leading companies and LGBT activists as anti-gay. To many people it is being seen as a way for the state to ratify discrimination against gay and lesbian people under the guise of religious freedom.
Per personal beliefs, this country was built on religion. The very reason the country was formed was because of frustration with the religious tolerance of England. While this bill may seem repulsive to some, most of the country is religious and I do not believe that religious freedom automatically means discrimination.
