Close to this time 5 years ago BP's Deepwater Horizon rid had a disastrous spill. The accident killed 11 workers and releases over 3 million barrels of oil. The spill caused many problems immediately and problems that are still felt today. Currently people are still finding dead sea life that many believe is an effect of left over oil. One source says they continue to find dead dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico. Also, many notice oil pellets washed up on beaches. The oil spill has also taken its toll on businesses that use tourism or the Gulf as their means of income. The tourism industry in the first years of the spill perished, but since the initial fall the industry has grown. One owner a clam fishing business still thinks the oil spill has had a negative impact on his company.
Throughout United States history we see how humans effect the environment in which they live. In 1906. Upton Sinclair released his book The Jungle which explained in detail US companies gruesome practices to animals and the environment. After the release of the book there is a large movement for more humane practices and a change in regulations and restrictions for companies.

Humans have a huge impact on the environment and unfortunately it's usually a negative impact like when settlers depleted forests to make room for their farm animals.
