TSA Union Calls For Arming Some Airport Employees Madana Kloss 4th
After A Violent Machete attack at a New Orleans airport, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer have called for a specialized armed elite force that has the power to use deadly force at any U.S. airports. Unfortunately , the power of having armed officers at airports is up to local police work, not involved with the TSA. However, the union did not want TSA officers to be armed, but instead to just have a new unit that is trained to handle hostile situations at security lines. Opposition to this decision with the example of the congress being how “Paying for creating, training and deploying a new national police force, and say it could be a jurisdictional nightmare.”
I believe that airports should have armed TSA members to ensure safety upon other workers and travelers. Airports can get very chaotic and having a new unit could potentially stop a suspect from hurting other victims. This can be connected to the 9/11 attack back in 2001 and how there huge controversy on pilots and if they should be armed or not.
