Summary:
NASA believes they are very close to finding life elsewhere in the universe. In fact, they believe they will find evidence in the upcoming decade. They have the technology and they've been working toward implementing it more often in as many ways as possible. They believe what they will find will be along the lines of small microbes.
Analysis:
The concern with this is the possible spread of a dangerous and contagious disease. Disease has killed more people in history than all wars combined. This concern existed during the first apollo missions during the world war. NASA had protocols in case the astronauts went to the moon and caught a space disease. When they got back they even had to be kept in quarantine. I believe that NASA should just be cautious of this since disease has been known to severely harm the human race.
