BMW will recall 91,000 Mini Coopers due to a faulty air bag sensor in the front-passenger seat, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency said the sensor may not recognize that there is a person in the seat, which would cause the air bag not to deploy during an accident. In a report BMW sent, the automaker said an estimated 10% of the vehicles had faulty air bag sensors. The models affected by this are the 2005-2006 Mini Cooper and Cooper S vehicles. The agency says BMW will replace the sensors for free and the recall is expected to begin on May 1.
Stories like this make me worry about what other cars being used right now may have faulty parts that their owners don't know about -- all because things weren't thouroughly checked when the car was being made. I hope that nobody was injured or killed due to this mistake and I hope that everyone is able to get their air bag sensor replaced before they find out about it the hard way.

If about every 1 in 10 airbags are considered to be faulty then should this imply that there is perhaps something wrong with the machinery producing these parts?
ReplyDeleteWow, that is crazy and is going to cost them. Maybe they need to test their cars more effectively before issuing them out.
