Indiana and Arkansas Amend New Religious Freedom Laws- Joelle Gnikpingo, 2nd period
Mike Pence, Governor of Indiana
After the Arkansas Sense passed its Religious Freedom Restoration Act, governor Asa Hutchinson refused to sign it until the language of the law was changed.
Indiana governor Mike Pence added an amendment that addresses sexual orientation and gender identity. It was approved and "ensures that interests in religious freedom" are protected and it prohibits businesses from using this as discrimination.
Analysis
The First Amendment was placed to avoid discrimination based on religion and to be able to freely practice one's own religion.
