A gay hotelier hosted an event for senator Ted Cruz without fully understanding Cruz's opposition to same sex marriage. Afterward, he did research and decided that he had betrayed the gay community. He then posted an apology on Facebook for serving Cruz.
This was written by Eric Bradner for CNN. I have two big things to say about this. One: this is why it is important to keep up with what is happening around us. You never know when or where you may see a political figure, but as citizens of a democracy, we are called to understand what is going on with those who are in charge of our country. When we know the views of these political leaders, we can make an informed decision such as whether or not it would be a good idea to serve them should they show up at an event you're hosting. Second: the gay rights topic has been a big political controversy since around the 60's or 70's. I think this man should be commended for how he dealt with the knowledge he gained about Cruz. Rather than getting defensive and lashing out on those who had something to say about what he did, he simply wrote a mature apology to anyone who might've been offended. This probably stings for the senator as well because rather than causing a scene, this man has made a public acknowledgement of the regret he feels from hosting Cruz, giving the senator bad press.
