After
being inspected by the police and “proved” incorrect Rolling
Stone magazine retracted the discredited story which mentioned an
alleged gang rape at the University of Virginia. The article was
taken down after being described as a “journalistic failure that
was avoidable.” The magazine's managing editor herself was quoted
as saying that “The report was painful reading, to me personally
and to all of us at Rolling Stone,” in an editor’s note that was
appended to the outside review above mentioed that was published on
Rolling Stone’s website on Sunday.
This
most directly relates to yellow journalism in US history, many times
people or newspapers have tried to pass off news that was false to
the people. Not out of disrespect to the people but instead in an
attempt to sell more newspapers.
