Illinois Inmate Recaptured by Lydia Petree, Fourth Period

In Kankakee County, Illinois, 23 year old convicted murderer Kamron Taylor had escaped. He jumped an officer at his correctional facility and then proceeded to steal the guard's uniform and car and got away. He wasn't found until two days later. In the end, it was the tattoo around his neck, "Gertrude," that gave him away. This isn't a common tattoo to have. He might be charged with attempted murder for his assault of the correctional officer, and it is unclear whether or not he will be going back to the facility where he was housed before. Officials want to make sure about the safety of the guards, and also that the guards don't try to retaliate against Taylor with any unusual punishment when he does return. It is apparent here that there is something wrong with our judicial system. From Roosevelt's "court-packing scheme" to Guantanamo Bay to the fact that this past Wednesday it went unaccounted for that a prisoner had escaped the premises, there's no denying this fact. When there are innocent people in jail and convicted murderers walking the streets with a stolen SUV, changes need to be made. The safety of the American people and the sanctity of the law are no longer priorities, and that poses a threat to the very democracy that this country was founded on.
