"Fission may fizzle as nuclear power reacts to economics" - Addison Norman pd 2

The two nuclear power plants in Texas continue to run, but the time makes it harder and harder for nuclear power plants to produce energy. Nuclear power has it's pro and cons. It gives off a lot of energy - just the two power plants in Texas supply the state with 15% of its energy, but nuclear energy also comes with radioactive wastes. Despite it's effectiveness, nuclear energy isn't widely used throughout out the U.S., especially with cheaper forms of energy. The recent fall of oil and gas prices have also greatly effected nuclear power plants. With the low prices the need for alternative sources of energy aren't as necessary.
The use of nuclear energy has been as option in the U.S., and it was used for a while. In 1979 the nuclear energy movement changed in the U.S.. March 1979 marked the day of the Three Mile Island accident in Pennsylvania. It is recorded as one of the worst nuclear energy accidents in the country. The nuclear power plant released radioactive matter that exposed 100,000 people. Looking at this accident the U.S. started shutting down more nuclear power plants. With its danger and cost unclear energy is continuing to "fizzle" out.
