Deputy Faces Manslaughter Charges By: Zaria Chambers 5th period

A deputy in Tula, Oklahoma is now being charged with manslaughter because instead of using this taser to detain a suspect he shot him instead. Reserve Deputy Robert Bates announced that he was going to use his taser actually used his gun and shot Eric Courtney Harris in the back. Mr. Harris is African American and he was very upset with the fact that he was shot. If found guilty the deputy could serve up to four years in prison.

I'm glad that these police officers who are shooting these innocent people are being caught. I know sometimes that police officers may have to use their guns to protect themselves but sometimes some police officers just take it too far. I know that we just covered racism in the last weeks in class and this could be seen as racial injustice because this was an innocent black man who was shot purposely.
