Yesterday, Hillary Clinton announced her second presidential campaign. She ran before in 2008, but it didn't go so well. It seems that people either really like her or really don't. One of the main criticisms of her during the last run was that she has a hard time connected with voters and really isn't a people person. She released a video saying that she wants to be America's next champion, focusing mainly on the middle class. In the video, many different kinds of people were showcased. Diversity seems to be on the agenda of both Democratic nominees that have announced so far. Marco Rubio is also in the running as of today. Son of a Cuban immigrant, he brings new diversity and a firsthand account of overcoming adversity.
I'm not sure that Hillary will do so well. As in 2008, she doesn't have the appeal of a fresh new face. People may be concerned that she will not be able to step out of her husband's limelight. For instance, the first thing that most people think about when they hear the last name "Clinton" is scandal. They may not want to go through that again. Clinton may not have been as bad as someone like Nixon, but he also isn't one of the more popular presidents. This is not good for Hillary. I think the best thing for her would be if her husband would just stay out of the way. I'm interested to see who the Republican candidates will be, since this is an important year for our generation to be able to vote in.
