Fall Back time of the year is here. No, not literally fall backwards. Instead set your clocks back one hour. This is a favorite time of year for my household. The coveted extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning. Let's talk about the origin of this extra hour. Benjamin Franklin, the inventor and co-signer of the Declaration of Independence, actually suggested to move the clock back an hour to reduce the number of candles that were used. Yes, Mr. Franklin was a wax conservationist apparently. No one gave his idea any attention. This is hard to believe since he invented so many cool things. It wasn't until William Willet of Britain proposed it in 1907 to support energy conservation. Then nine years later the Daylight Savings Time was adopted. Germany, Britain and the United States were the first countries to adopt. The U.S.'s main reason was to give the World War II soldiers more daylight time. When the wars were over, the mainland went back to regular time. The debate on whether Daylight Savings Time should stay or go is still in conversation today and discussed amongst legislature.
