A man living in Colorado was driving home late one night with a few of his friends trying to fight off sleep. He ended up hitting a barrier and flipping multiple times, and due to him not wearing a seat-belt, he was thrown hundreds of feet away from the car. Usually your skull and cervical spine are a millimeter apart, his was separated six millimeters apart becoming internally decapitated. He is still alive but continues to relive that night every moment of his life.
It's awful that he is stuck with this memory his whole life. It's a blessing that he is alive and survived the accident. This connects to the time in American history when there was the invention of seat belts. A long time ago, people rode in cars without seat belts which made driving even more dangerous, so when the invention was introduced, the amount of lives that were lost or injured decreased. So like the man said, if he had just worn his seat-belt, then he could of been in better condition.

Oh man what a memory and story he will not be able to escape from. If only he had "clicked it" as Texas highways say, he would have ended up in a different situation.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out how he lived when his head was completely separated from his body by six millimeters. That is a true miracle...
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh! How do you even live when your head is disconnected?!

This isn't entirely true. My son was not driving. He took his seat belt off to nap in the back seat, and his friend accidentally fell asleep driving. My son is not plagued by this memory, as he has post concussive amnesia of the accident, the day of the accident, and the first several days after the accident. These memories will most likely not return. He has a long road a head of him, but he is one of 8 people to ever walk after this injury... More people have walked on the moon... Less than 1% make it to the hospital, and less than 1% of those walk again. Whether he remembers the accident or not, the lessons will stay with him forever. Wear your seat belt, and pull over if you are tired! More good news, although the car flipped 3 times, all 4 of the young men in the car made it. Everyone but my son was released from the hospital within three hours, bruised, but doing great.

DeleteMy cousin went duck hunting in Idaho and a guy ran a red light and hit him and his buddy. Josh hated wearing s seat belts and he flew out of car. He's now a quadriplegic. Seat belts are so necessary. I wish your son the best. I truly hope he heals great and he learns from this. There are so many that didn't walk away due to no seat belts. Your family, hang in there.
