Chemical Leak Kills 4 - Hannah Kalan 6th Period
This past Saturday, 5 workers in a DuPont plant in La Porte, Texas, were exposed to the chemical methyl mercaptan, which is used in pesticides and fungicides. 4 of the workers were killed from the leak, and the fifth was hospitalized, and is reported to recover. They're still investigating the leak, however it didn't spread in dangerous amounts to the neighboring areas even though some smelled the chemical.
I think it's terrible how those workers had to die in an accident like that. There have been several incidents in the past that are similar to this one in nature, chemical fires and other incidents; we've come a long way since the industrial era, but some work places are still pretty dangerous. And, hopefully, someone will figure out a solution to this soon.
