ISIS Recruiting American Teens- by Rachel Devine (6th)

Last month, three teenage girls from Denver left the country to try and go join ISIS. According to officials, they stole their passposrts without telling their parents, took a flight to Germany, and were planning to go to Turkey from there; their ages ranged from 15 to 17. Law enformement officials in the US are studying this case to see how the terrorist group recruits people living in the West. The UK Spy Chief found out that the group uses popular forms of social media to contact these American recruits, like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. Although the girls got caught before making it to Turkey, "It's still alarming that American youths are being radicalized to such a degree they're willing to jump into the great unknown," as said as one official.

I find this article to be extremely concerning. The fact that ISIS is so talented at the art of rhetoric and persuading people to join their is dangerous, to say the least. ISIS needs to be stopped, and Americans joining the fight will only hinder their end. It's slightly far fetched but I suppose this could be compared to Hitler in WWII and how he persuaded all those men to become Nazis.

  1. Technology has connected the world more than ever before, and it's shocking to see how this connection has led to negative outcomes.

  2. I feel that this cannot really be prevented but honestly a handful of teenagers out of millions of americans is not going to help hardly at all if at all

    1. While it may "only" by three teenage girls, it is the very fact that ISIS has this sort of control and power that is so terrifying, in my opinion.

  3. It just goes to show what kin of hold ISIS is gaining on the world. They're even recruiting young children by this point.

  4. I wonder what ISIS recruits said that persuaded these girls to leave their lives and joined an extreme terrorist group. It's frightening to imagine what would happen if ISIS gained supporters in several countries around the world.
