17 year old gives CPR to unbreathing baby in Walmart - Sarah Oviedo 6th pd.

On November 13, 2014 in Hillsboro, Missouri at a local Walmart there was a mother who had noticed that her baby stopped breathing out of no where. A caller, who was the store manager had called the police to notify them that there was a baby with no pulse. As the mother tried to get the baby to get back to its normal state, she was frightened by her baby's incident. A 17 year old girl happened to be shopping in the area and ran over to try and help. The teen asked if anyone knew CPR and immediately began to give CPR to the baby. The teen's name was Abby who had just recently learned how to do CPR from her school. She saved the baby and is considered a "remarkable individual".

This is a demonstrated of what students are taught in school and how effective they are outside of the classroom and school walls. This impacts the U.S. in a humble way because it shows how young people can make a difference with what they are being taught in their education. I think it is very important for the educational learnings are being recognized by not only the districts but by the government. It is important to make/keep the U.S. in a valuable state of manner. Students are learning in school not only for their knowledge but to make them better individuals and leaders for the U.S. in a positive way.

  1. The mother was extremely lucky in this situation, for if that teen had not been in the store, the infant could have died. Incidents like this, although rare, show how lessons like CPR are extremely important and should be a part of education. I would be fully committed to learning CPR, especially if it meant saving one's life.

  2. That is coincidental and amazing that the teenage girl was there to help. I learned CPR in junior high and never thought I would ever actually use it, but this goes to show it is indeed a valuable skill to know.

  3. The infant was very lucky that this girl was in the right place at the right time and was able to save the infant. I wonder why the infant had stopped breathing in the first place.

  4. It is amazing that this young girl was able to save this baby and it shows the importance of teaching kids safety skills at school. Everyone needs to be informed of this information, otherwise this baby might've not survived.

  5. I think that we should teach CPR and other life-saving techniques in schools nationwide. This is a story of a remarkable action, but it's also one of sheer luck. If Abby hadn't been shopping in the store that day, or she had missed school the day she was taught CPR, the baby might not have survived. We should all be educated in what to do when these types of things occur. There is no reason why we shouldn't. (Elizabeth Muscari p6)
