Workers Killed In Chemical Leak by Madeline Ibarra Period 2

A mysterious chemical leak in the small town of La Porte, Texas has killed four workers and hospitalized another this past Saturday. The reason for the leak have not  been discovered and are still under thorough investigation. The company that owns the plant, DuPont, says that this area was never at rick because the plant never showed signs of damage or possibility of a leak. The chemical, methyl mercaptan, is used in insecticides and fungicides, as well as to odorize natural gas so it can be detected. Early Saturday morning, neighbors reported smelling the gas through the air but they were told by the company that the little bit in the air was not harmful.
This accident seems to be caused by a very small and simple mishap. It could have been a failed pipeline or that someone did not check how the plant was working. For this to happen to a small, unsuspecting town means that it couple happen anywhere. The loss of life is terrible, but if this were to happen on a larger scale in a giant city, the loss of life would be tremendous.

  1. Oh man, this is really something. He just was working and ended up not returning home that day due to an accident of a simple mishap. Things like this are happening throughout the world and mistakes are being made that could be prevented if one pays more attention to what is needed.

  2. If that gas leaked killed those four workers and hospitalized the other, what kind of affect could it have on the people residing in that area if no further action is taken? I hope that no one will suffer the same fate that those poor workers did and that extra precautions are taken while fixing the gas leak and cleaning up the air in the area.
