Summary:
NASA's own Dr. Ellen Stofan thinks i t is a possiblity to land humans on Mars sometime during the mid 2030s. She thinks that in order to learn more about our planet's problems we need to learn as much as possible about other planetary bodies. She sums that up best by saying "If you're a doctor and you only have one patient, then you'd never really understand the progression of disease. You need lots of patients, and scientists learn more about the Earth by studying lots of planets."

Analysis:
We really should start putting more money into the space program and start focusing on doing more things in outer space! Space exploration is one of the places where America is ahead of most, if not all, countries. A large amount of what our space program accomplished was during the Space Race against Russia in the Cold War. And that's only because we were in a competiotin. Exploring space is also the only place (other than the deep depths of the ocean) that we have left to explore. Having a colony on Mars would be a huge advancement for America, and it'd be very similar to what happened a long time ago with the exploration and colonization of the 'New World', but now I think it's time to start focusin our attention on exploring the 'New New World'.
Is mars even suitable for life as large as humans? I know that there have been rumors of distant planets that have a similar atmospher to earth, but we will never be reaching those anytime soon. But I the meantime, is mars really that important?
