Pedestrian Killed While Walking in Rowlett (Jazmin Garcia-2nd Period)

A woman died after being hit by a car while walking on the shoulder of a road on Friday. Michelle I. Bryce was walking with her husband and some friends to a nearby home when she was hit. It happened before 10pm on Elm Grove Rd. There are no sidewalks in the area. She was taken to Lake Pointe Medical Center then transported by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she died later that night. No charges have been filed and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigation.

It's very sad to hear about someone who can pass away at any given moment. I feel like this accident could have been prevented if there were sidewalks in the area. This relates to APUSH because this is something local and we all need to work as a community to get a problem liked this fixed. Something like this should be brought up to let people know that there should be more sidewalks if there are going to be people walking there. Anything concerning safety should always be priorities. Whenever someone passes away because of something that could've been prevented, especially something that sounds as simple as a sidewalk, shouldn't be ignored.

  1. We all need to be very careful when walking across, along, or through the street because side walks are made to keep pedestrians and bikers safe from cars essentially. Row left should take Ito consideration a possible investment in building more sidewalks if this becomes a serious problem. So sad about the woman and my heart goes out to her family and friends.

  2. I agree that this horrible event proves that sidewalks are needed in that specific area to prevent any further incidents. I also think that the driver who hit her needs to take some responsibility in the matter.
