Chemical Plant Leak - Corsica Steding

Last Saturday at a DuPont plant in La Porte, Texas, four workers were killed.  There was an additional employee that was exposed to the chemical and had to be hospitalized.  Methyl Mercaptan, the leaked chemical, is typically used in insecticides and fungicides, and sometimes to odorize natural gas for safety purposes.  Plant manager Randall Clements said that the cause of this leak is still currently under investigation and that the surrounding community was never at any risk.  The event occurred at 4 a.m. according to Clements.

Mariano Castillo wrote this article on November 16th for CNN.  Before reading this article, I had heard of a few chemical leaks but didn't have a great deal of prior knowledge about them.  This article was written to inform the public of the events that occurred in La Porte this past weekend.  It's terribly sad that the four employees lost their lives due to this chemical leak and I know that many people's thoughts are with their family and friends who were deeply affected by this.

  1. If this has been an ongoing problem, I believe that it needs to be taken care of, and I'm surprised that it hasn't been taken care of already. I hope family and friend get an answer soon.
