The Bad Side of the FBI - Rachel Webb, 3rd Period

People respect the FBI because their purpose is to serve and protect the United States citizens.  When the cooperation was first founded, in 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt, J. Edgar Hoover was the chosen director. He was a rule-breaker who gave the FBI a bad name from the beginning. He involved in illegal wiretaps of Martin Luther King Jr.'s home and from what he found, wrote an anonymous letter to him telling him to kill himself. Reporters are just now figuring this out and this just goes to show that the government is only slowly progressing. We are not yet a strong nation. This happened less than a year ago during the civil rights movements when King was becoming large and in charge. Hoover's jealousy led him to send the horrendous letter.
