Gay couples not allowed to stay together in Kansas shelter by Lindsey Galvan

Legally married same-sex homeless couples will not be allowed to stay together at Union Mission, and many are questioning the charity's policy. The shelter has required marriage licenses in order for families to stay together at the homeless shelter for 90 years. "We are not hateful people. We are not biggots. We believe what the Bible teaches. We still care for people and shelter people, That is based on our Biblical understanding of what God believes and what he teaches in his word
" Executive Director Dan Doty said.

The first amendment states that the government shall have no interference with a citizen's religion, speech, assembly, or petition. Although states in America have started to legalize same sex marriage, doesn't mean everyone in this example, the shelter, should allow it as well. Clearly this shelter is highly religious. Just as same sex couples would like to be respected for who they are, the shelter would like to be respected for what they believe in.

  1. This is an example of imposing your religion on other individuals. If you are allowing the heterosexual couples to stay with eachother in this homeless shelter, why should you shun the gay couples. In that place, everyone should be welcoming and supportive.
