This afternoon Dr. Martin Salia was the second Ebola patient
to die in the U.S. Salia spent time in west Africa treating Ebola patients
where he originally contracted the disease. He would go back and forth between
Sierra Leone, where he treated Ebola patients, and Maryland, his home where his
wife and children live. His medical staff in Nebraska was honored to treat him
because of his heroic national medical service. He arrived in critical
condition on Saturday at the Nebraska Medical Center where his kidneys and
respiratory system were failing. The doctors agreed that treatment should
include ZMapp therapy and a blood transfusion from an Ebola survivor. Sadly it
was too late for Salia and he passed away this Monday afternoon.
This article was written this afternoon, Monday, November
17, 2014. It was written by Ashley Fantz from CNN. The author sympathized for
the deceased patient and praised his medical staff for their best efforts. It
seemed that medically we were making advances with Ebola treatment, but this
fatality seems to set us back again.
Although many may joke about Ebola, it is still a terrible thing and that we must take into consideration people's lives who are in danger. This doctor sacrificed himself, trying to treat another person. It is very heroic of him.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad and I agree it's pretty much time to stop joking about it because this shows how easy it is to die from this crazy disease. We all need to take caution and stay clean if we want to keep this terrible disease out of America and really get rid of it for good everywhere.
