Lamenting the difficulty of becoming a US citizen, she calls attention to the difficulty of immigration. The immigration system has been a broken one for quite a while now. This actress' outcry for reform is a stellar example of pop culture figure using their platform to create change. She speaks of how thousands of children are left without family when their parents and siblings are deported, and how it isn't just in the best interest of immigrants, but also citizens, as less deportations leads to less children trapped in foster care and worse, the juvenile justice system.
She is such an inspiration I love how she and other actresses from the show like Laverne Cox are using their fame to start conversations and create change.
