In Missouri on August 9, a white police officer, Darren Wilson, shot a black teen, Michael Brown, within just 2 minutes after finding out he stole a box of cigars. Brown was at the market that day with his friend, Dorian Johnson. The two teens were walking in the middle street towards their car. Wilson caught them and asked for more officers to help him out. Brown charged towards Wilson and that caused him to start shooting. The two struggled over the gun, but Wilson ended up shooting Brown. Riots continue to appear in Missouri that it wasn't Brown's fault. The court is deciding whether or not to accuse Wilson of unnecessary shooting.
I feel like I have heard many similar stories because they are so many criminal stories out there regarding thiefs and especially shop lifting. Whenever I read this, I immediately thought of the 6th amendment which states that the accused has a right to a speedy and public trial. I think there could have been other alternatives to handle the criminal, yet I wasn't there to witness it. The police officer could have easily backed up and have the other officers help him handcuff him. The officer and Brown did fight over the gun for awhile, so if I was in Wilson's position, I would have shot the criminal too.
