Dying with Dignity by Sarah Oviedo 6th pd.

Two girls who both had Brain Cancer who's only wish was to die on their own terms and do whatever they dreamed of before their day came. Brittany Maynard fought for her right to die with dignity, meaning to die on her own terms when she pleases. Lauren Hill fought for her dream which was to play in a college Basketball game before her time. The messages they conveyed were sad but very inspirational and they told us to enjoy your time on Earth because it could be the end before you even know it. Maynard moved to Oregon so she could take a medication that would kill her quickly but painlessly. Hill got to play in her College Basketball Game before her time came and they both spread brave and inspirational messages before their lives were ended.

In Oregon their is an act called the Dying with Dignity Act which allows terminally ill patients to take a medication when they are ready that will end their life painlessly. If they are suffering and they need a way out of the pain and nothing else is working or God has told them that their time has come. This act shows that some places in America people have more freedoms and are allowed to make choices that they wish to, even though I do not agree with suicide or taking your own life. I think this law should be revoked because it is not necessary to cut your time on Earth but rather if a person says to live their life to the fullest they should not end it early. They contradicted themselves in a way that shouldn't apply to taking control and ending their lives.

  1. Actually, I disagree. I'd rather have the right to end my life than not, and it's better for some people, not always, but sometimes it is. Especially if you're sick and dying, some people don't have people who'll visit them if they get sick and it's miserable, and some people just want to die natural deaths, free of the stress and extra sickness that some medicines bring. But, that's just my opinion.
