Voters to decide on the raising of the minimum wage - Veronica Nichols 2nd Period

Although it has mostly been the democratic party campaigning for the raising of the minimum wage there is a chance in four mostly republican states that they will raise the minimum wage. Polls have shown that a majority of the voters in, Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska, South Dakota are in favor of a minimum wage increase. Arkansas is a strange case with a state minimum wage a full dollar below the federal minimum. If these measures pass these 4 states will join twelve others who have voted to raise the minimum wage.
In my opinion raises to the minimum wage make total sense. As the value of money has gone down due to inflation the amount of money people need to be able to make to live goes up. Anybody working full time should be able to live a decent life. People who work all the time should be able to reasonably expect not to worry about feeding their families. The republican argument is that raising the minimum wage will hurt business owners but I think that any business owner who doesn't want to raise the minimum wage isn't adequately taking care of their employees.

  1. I completely agree. As the US continues to go into more and more debt people have to take note of how it effects the US dollar and how it influences daily life.

  2. I agree that this makes sense because it helps the economically disadvantaged in so many ways. Raising minimum wage would decrease the number of people who will have to rely on government assistance so much.
