A 29 year old by the name of Brittany Maynard has brought attention to the Death with Dignity Act that allows terminally ill patients to take their own life when pain becomes too much. She was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, which is a type of brain tumor, and was given 6 months to live and decided to take an overdose of barbiturates prescribed by her doctor to end her life. She made headlines around the world when she announced she intended to die – under Oregon's Death with Dignity Act, with her mother and husband by her side. Oregon is only one of five states that gives people that option to take their life. Brittany took her life this Sunday November 2, 2014 in her own bedroom. Her goal was to bring this issue to the forefront to help change the health care policy making it a right for all American's to end their own lives if they are living with a terminal disease and in unbearable pain. She believes that people deserve to die on their own terms especially if they are in pain.

I am glad to hear she was able to take her last breath in this world with dignity. It must be such a pleasure to do so.
ReplyDeleteI think all people should have this opportunity if they are suffering
