Hit on Halloween by Madeline Ibarra Period 2

Halloween night in Santa Ana, California was all fun and games until someone or someones got hurt. Three teen age girls all of the age of 13 were out trick-or-treating around 6:30 pm when crossing a street at a cross walk. All of the girls were hit and killed by a speeding car as they crossed the street. The girls were declared dead on the scene when ambulance arrived. This had happened near a residential elementary school as other families and children trick-or-treated. The suspected drivers of the car ditched the vehicle, a Honda CRV, a couple of blocks away and fled of foot. One of the teenage victims was thrown almost 100 feet away from the point of impact. It has been said by witnesses that the car was driving at least 50mph while the speed limit for that area is 25 mph.

We hear of spooky stories told by parents and teachers about what can happen Halloween night. The things that they warn us about are actual dangers. The girls who became the victims that night were more likely than not out on their own walking around their neighborhood. This year, I did not go out and walk around at night. If this could happen to three random teenagers, who else could it happen to? The men driving the car may have been having too much Halloween fun to be speeding in a neighborhood where children are walking everywhere at night. I hope that whoever it was will be found and questioned soon.

  1. That is so sad for the families. I hope they find the driver of the car and that justice is served.

  2. It is depressing to see a night that is supposed to be fun and care-free turn into a monstrous event where families are hurt and people end up dying. We should all be more careful.

  4. This is so terrible to hear that a fun holiday has been turned into a horrible night. The children died on something that wasn't their fault and now their relatives and friends will have to have this horrible memory with them forever. 3rd Period
