US Citizens Joining Rebels In Syria

Recently, ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) has gained vast expanses of land. This recent development has attracted many foreigners to assist this group. ISIS’ brutality with foreign captives has led Obama to announce that they have been the worst threat to America since the Al Qaeda before 9/11.  Some attractions include the sheer brutality, as well as the advanced organization involved in the making of this state. ISIS is not just recruiting soldiers, but engineers, doctors, and oil field workers as well. Over 1,000 Europeans and 100 Americans have fought for Islamic organizations over the past 3 years.  Americans and Europeans alike are struggling to prevent cases like these. It’s extremely hardtop track people, officials say, because the citizens have nothing in common with each other. The reason why American officials have picked up interest in this subject are because some American citizens have been killed and or have been held captive by ISIS militants, and being tortured using the same devices the Bush campaign used against terrorists.

Analysis: A journalist for the New York Times who has been studying terrorism for up to 7 years wrote this article. He was writing to inform people about a problem in the Middle East (again) that involved everyday American and European citizens. This is interesting to people because of the reason I just stated. He was informing people of the casualties and the brutality of ISIS militants towards foreign captives.
