The article that I read this week was about the issue of the death penalty in the U.S. This penalty has always been controversial, but now that the main source of death, lethal injection, is becoming less and less of a possibility, officials are scrambling for another idea. After European drug manufactures began to ban the export of the ingredients necessary to make this drug, other states began to stop production as well. This has led to the search for alternate methods of execution including hanging, lethal gas, firing squad, and electrocution. The decision to stop the production of this drug is more commonly known as the Pfizer decision and has caused an increase in the search for any and all alternatives.
This relates back to the issue of states rights and how each different state is dealing with the issue. Some states don't even have the death penalty at all making this an irrelevant problem for them. It also becomes an issue regarding whether or not it is constitutional or if their new methods are considered to be cruel and unusual punishment.
