Nicholas Godfrey Period 8: Obama Indirects Trump in Commencement Speech

Summary: This past Sunday, President Obama was giving the commencement speech at Rutgers University in New Jersey. During this speech, President Obama made some very clear jabs at presidential candidate Donald Trump. He told the graduating students that ignorance isn't a virtue and that not knowing what you're talking about is never a good thing especially if you are claiming them to be your outspokenness or challenging political correctness, and that those claims are not correct. He also made comments about how not allowing Muslims into the US is completely wrong (another bash at Trump). He never clearly mentioned Donald Trump, but it was very clear who he was talking about the entire time, as it has been in many of his recent speeches in which he indirectly insults Trump.

Analysis: I think that the President's comments about Trump are always iconic. Especially during his White House Corespondents Dinner, how he made it look like he was gonna finish the speech without saying anything about Trump and then started laughing and said, "You guys think I would leave out Trump?!?" Its relieving to see people of power talking bad about Trump especially because of all the good publicity that this guy gets for some reason. This made me think of the cabinet debates between Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson and Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton (yes I am synthesizing to Hamilton, don't hate) in which they would both be arguing head to head and then President Washington would end up supporting Hamilton and disgracing Jefferson at the same time, which is what Obama seems to be doing to Trump (although Obama likes Bernie more than Hillary).

  1. I agree that its relieving to see political leaders making fun of Trump, because in a way it ensures that if he even gets close to becoming president then there will be power to be able to stop him.

  2. It seems like the only publicity that Trump is getting are insults from others. Hopefully, IF he is elected, he'll be impeached for some kind of insane action.
