Ted Cruz, along with other congressional representatives of border states, and warned Trump against taking action to shut down the U.S.- Mexican border. They stated that doing so would hurt Texas and would be punishing those entering the U.S. legally instead of just securing our border and punishing this crossing illegally. Trump did elaborate on his threats of closing the border during an interview and stated that other measures would be taken if Mexico didn't stop border crossing and if those measures didn't work then he would close the U.S.-Mexican border.

I hope that the fact that Trump kinda went back on his previous threat means that he is actually at the very least taking into consideration the advice and warnings of those around him. I think that often times Trump decides to take things to the extreme without thinking through the consequences. I still however find it concerning that he is still even considering his threats of closing the border because even if he is seeing it as a last resort and I think it is something that would have extreme consequences that should make it something that isn't even on the table.
