Measles is a lethal disease that was once responsible for the death of many people every year, although after the invention of madden vaccines, it has been almost completely eradicated in the United States. Recent studies, however, show that this year has had the second highest rate of measles infections in the past 25 years. This is due to the growing number of parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids. 555 cases of the disease have already been reported, and it's only April, meaning it could greatly increase throughout the year.
I believe that although it should be the right of parents to choose wether or not to vaccinate their kids, the health and safety of our nation and world as a whole is more important, so I believe vaccinations should be required by law. The amount of evidence that many people claim to support on the fight against vaccines is extremely small and not based in sound science. I agree that we should respect peoples religions and values, however I believe that vaccinations to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases is an important thing that we cannot avoid for any reason.

I think that it's important, especially with the rise of the measles cases, for parents to reconsider their opinions on vaccinating their children. I'm not trying to say that anti-vax is the wrong opinion to have or anything, but it's just important for people to be able to continue to stand by their beliefs, by better understanding the consequences of both options. I can see now the incredible amount of controversy that will continue surrounding vaccination, and this recent up-rise is even more a reason for those who are anti-vax to strengthen that belief to avoid attack.

I'm trying my best
Honestly it sounds like the world is ending fr. Measles? What is this, 1700?!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that parents should have to vaccinate their children. I feel that we have to trust medical professionals and also protect the people around us who are more likely to get some of these diseases.
