This article was published on April 14, 2019 on CNBC. Negotiations with China has continued although the trade war may not be making as many headlines as they did. The United States, however, has a new set of demands one being that China discontinue its state-level subsidies because they're believed to make competition from American businesses impossible as they have to endure larger taxes and fees on production and shipping than Chinese businesses. China claims that the subsidies are there t help their economic industry grow. They don't believe all of their demands are going to be met, but US officials seems confident that their deals will be better than any other before this.
Chinese tariffs are similar to Henry Clay's proposed tariffs for America. his proposals were designed to protect the country's industry although it was still too weak against other foreign competition. However, I would argue that the significantly more developed economy of China should support free trade and international competition over protecting industries that are already well developed.
I believe it's reasonable for China to support Chinese businesses because these are the companies that are keeping investing the money back into China. I, also, believe that American consumers are starting t feel the effects of the tariffs from their normal day to day purchases as prices continue to increase.
