A Rural county Owes $28 Million for Wrongful Convictions. It Doesn't Want to Pay.

In this article it describes the six innocent people wrongfully convicted for the murder of Helen Wilson that spent up to 77 years behind bars, with newfound DNA evidence, they should soon be collecting $28 million from Gage County. To pay this fee, the local government would have to charge their citizens hundreds of thousands in tax dollars, which is preventing the wrongfully convicted from earning their money. Local businesses and people have asked why the people are paying the fine for the wrong decision that they did not make and resent the government for this. The accused feel ashamed that the people have to pay for them and that it isn't right, but what happened to them wasn't right either. Some still feel that the six did have some involvement and that the people shouldn't use their tax money for this.

I think that this is a situation that cannot please everyone, I believe that the six deserve the money owed, but it seems unfair to place this blame on the citizens that did not have anything to do with convicting these people. This reminds me of other cases in the past where wrongful convictions have ruined lives, such as James Richardson.
