Survey Says Americans Are Getting Stressed By The Elections - Emma Reyna

Summary:

In this news article, written for NPR, explains how this years 2016 election may be a huge source of stress for the majority of people in America. Despite everyone's different political views or maybe having none at all it just seems that everyone has given up on the presidential election for whatever reasons it may be.
In a recent online survey by the American Psychological Association stastics showed that an average of fifty two percent of adults over the age of eighteen in American had some source of stress related to this years election. The article states that some of these causes are from media consumption revolving around politics, and of course the commentary is always nasty and messy when viewing such a category because politics is so controversial and it can get quite atrocious real quick. This stress can also be evident due to the scandals and rumors and accusations made by each candidate. And even the debate has people going bonkers because of the way the candidates act in such childish ways it's like having your own children and you're having to watch them bicker constantly non-stop over stupid accusations that they accused of and they can't even establish a great point to our country better. But overall I'm not that shocked that Americans are feeling this way towards this years election sometimes I feel that way too.

Analysis:

In this particular article I had no prior knowledge before reading it although I did have quite an understanding of what conflictifing emotions this election caused to the American people. I  found it quite intriguing that it actually caused such high levels of anxiety and stress in Americans. Even my own mother agreed and said that after each debate she gets very anxious and nervous about our country's future. It's crazy to know that one of these candidates will soon potentially shape our nation and that decision is just around the corner, it's absolutely crazy!! The thought of it  is kind of scary to be truthful but overall I feel like people need to chill out a bit. Yes, although the election might be very important in the future of our country it is also important to acknowledge that it shouldn't cause huge amounts of stress. So I feel like people should just support and exercise their vote to the party of their choosing but they shouldn't forget that mental health is also important and shouldn't be enormously caused by such matters.

Synthesis:

This reminded me of the conventions and campaigns that took place right after Nixon resigned out office since  it raised concerning and stressful circumstances for Americans after what happened with the Watergate incident.

  1. This survey brings attention to the stress that is caused by having to comprehend and form opinions about the morals and values of the candidates, some seeming more valid than others. Putting our nation into the hands of untrustworthy or questionable leaders terrifies our people, as it should. I am hoping that the election will end on good terms and the stress caused will slowly dissipate.

  2. My mom is so stressed out by this presidential race that she has to turn off the television every time Donald Trump comes on. I think everyone will be glad once it's over.
