A zoo in New South Wales, named the Taronga Zoo, has developed a new method of customer service. This small zoo has decided to reach out to their customers with special needs. The zoo now lets mentally-disabled children enjoy the zoo without all of the extra stress caused by large crowds. Now special needs children can come and explore the zoo an hour early on special access days. The zoo has trained many of their staff members in order to properly care for mentally challenged little ones. The little ones are also given "VIP badges", just in case they need any extra assistance while at the zoo. The zoo also has quiet, grassy places, where families can take a break, and calm down.
This is a definite step-up. It is very comforting that this zoo took into consideration that not all of their littlest customers are the same, and worked to find a way to help ease the minds of the children with special needs. I love the idea that kids, who usually dislike being in big crowds, can have a peaceful, quiet time where they can just enjoy the zoo and their families. I wish we would incorporate this into our public places in America more.

I actually know a person that has special needs, and I think that the more we take action toward making them more comfortable, is amazing! Great topic.

ReplyDeleteIt is awesome that this zoo has included children with special needs into their programs and they have a place where they are comfortable but still getting the same experiences as the others.
ReplyDeleteThis is so a cool idea! It's amazing that people are taking action so those less fortunate can still experience things like a zoo!
