Summary: The hash tag, "BringBackOurGirls," has gotten popular recently, when about 21 Nigerian girls have been released from captivity to their parents.
Analysis: Held by a Boko Haram, twenty-on Nigerian girls never thought to see a family reunion , before being set free. These girls were kidnapped (276 of them) from their boarding school in northeastern town of Chibok in 2014. When the girls were first taken, fifty-seven escaped to freedom; one hundred and fourteen were remaining. These events have gotten strong national attention from the media and well-known leaders like activist Malala Yousafzai and our first lady, Michelle Obama. Even though the girls who are out today haven't been really communicating with the press, some girls say that there are many girls still in Sambisa forest with Boko Haram. He's trying to get them to either marry him or be his slave, but Nigerian officials are still trying to negotiate for the eighty-three names they have obtained. The extremists were hesitant about releasing girls(hint, 21), because they're out for something. Even though it will be difficult for the girls to get settled in, their families are over joyed about theur homecoming.
Synthesis: I'm really looking forward to them finding the rest of the girls and getting Boko punished. Thus article actually made me smile in the beginning, because they've been away for their families for a long time.

ReplyDeleteThis really is a good example of the effect that the media has on our society overall in the world today
ReplyDeleteI'm overjoyed these ladies were able to escape to freedom. However Boko Haram needs to be captured because what he is doing is absolutely horrific and needs to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to see the light in such a dark situation, but it's absolutely amazing to see that the twenty one that made it back are still alive and their is opportunity for them to heal, and maybe for the rest of the girls to be seen and see their loved ones again.
