Summary: New York Times writer, Jonah Engel Bromwich, reports the story of a bus crash near Palm Springs, California. The bus was driving down I-10 when it crashed into a tractor trailer. This incident left at least 11 people dead and even more injured.
Analysis: I hate hearing about things like this because they really cement the danger of driving on roads today. Until he world is made of totally self-driving cars with flawless communication and execution, driving to work, school, or anywhere else is an act of courage. And public transportation, as in this case, is a whole other thing. You put your life in the hands of some stranger you are trusting to get you from point A to point B safely. This is really sad and scary.
Synthesis: This tragic event can obviously be tied to an and every other fatal car crash or train wreck in history, but the theme of roads and transportation is a reminder of Andrew Jackson's ideas and the rise of "Internal Improvements" in the 1800's.
I agree that there is no way to prevent these horrible incidents without having self-driving cars. This is so sad and I hope that eventually they can solve this problem of having so many crashes.
